The Grumman Aerospace Corporation (formerly: Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation) was one of the leading US producer of civilian and military aircrafts during the 20th century.

The twin engine amphibious aircraft Grumman G-73 Mallard is the development of the G44 Widgeon. The company retained some of the features like high wings with underwing floats, the retractable gear and twin radials – additionally the Mallard was equipped with tricycle gear and wingtip fuel tanks and developed for commerical use.

The HU-16B Albatross as successor of the Mallard was developed to alight on water for rescuing downed pilots or flight crew.
